DK Acrylic Socks
By Amy Bright
- DK Yarn
(Pattern shows Stylecraft ‘Merry go round’ in Starburst 3145 as the main colour
and Hobby Craft ‘Women’s Institute’ in Navy 1429 as the contrast colour)
Pattern will work with any DK yarn
- 2.75mm 60 cm
Circular Needles
- Darning
needle/Crochet hook for weaving in
- Scissors
- Tape measure
or ruler
Gauge:
I
try not to worry about Gauge too much, life is too short and blocking tends to
fix any issues. My work is measuring between 6/7 stitches per inch.
Abbreviations:
K
– Knit
P
– Purl
SL
– Slip yarn to other needle
p2tog
- purl 2 stitches together
k2tog
- knit 2 stitches together
Cuff:
In
contrast colour, cast on 60 stitches in preferred method of cast on (if using
long tail like me, please cast on loosely as this can sometimes come out a
little tight). Join in the round being careful not to twist your work. Place 30
stitches on each needle.
Rounds
1-12: (k1, p1) repeat to the end of the round.

Change
to main colour.

in stockinette (knit all stitches) for 5 inches (or desired length).

Working
on only 1 needle, work the Heel flap back and forth.

Repeat
these 2 rows 14 more times (Total of 30 rows)

Pick
up 16 stiches along the side of the gusset (The garter stitch edge should make
this easier) on the working needle and knit them all.
Knit
the 30 stitches on the other needle
Pick
up 16 stitches along the other side of the gusset and knit them all.
Needle
one should have 48 stitches on and needle 2 should have 30 stitches on.

continue to work in the round, Knitting all stitches, repeat the decreases on
needle 1 until you have 30 stitches on Needle 1 and 30 stitches on needle 2.

Round
1: Knit all stitches
Needle
1: K1, K2tog, Knit to the last 3 stitches, K2tog, K1.
Needle
2: K1, K2tog, Knit to the last 3 stitches, K2tog, K1
Round
2: K all stitches
Repeat
rounds 1 and 2 until you have 12 stitches remaining on each needle.
Close
the toe using your preferred method. Most people like to use the Kitchener
stitch. Personally I like to use the thumb method cast off and sew up.
Finishing:
Weave
in all ends and block.
You
are all done! Now all you have to do is defeat the dreaded ‘second sock
syndrome’ and get that next one cast on!
